Rock Resources

Enabled for Life: Ready to Work

Rock Resources program provides supports and training to vulnerable youth through Work-to-Earn and Earn-while-you-Learn models. Through Rock Resources, Living Rock is working alongside participants to set up SMART(Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals that address both challenges and dreams in their life. These goals are often set up to look at finding stable housing, seek support to address mental health or substance misuse concerns, provide positive activity and spur them on in their journey.

In addition to goal setting, we like to champion participants by celebrating each milestone on their journey and also when their goals are met. This is done by offering incentives that support their basic needs of food, clothing and transportation in the way of gift cards and bus tickets. This model is acknowledges youth's time and effort put into personal work. Finally, we aim to offer training that will build their confidence and skill repertoire that will equip youth for life and the work force. Youth need the opportunity, space and coaches to come alongside them in this important work.

Using a “work-to-earn” model, Rock Resources provides incentives for youth to engage in one-to-one weekly meetings with a coach, skill building workshops and work crews aimed at readying them for entry level employment. Food services, retail merchandising and sales, inventory control and cleaning work crews are opportunities to teach the basic skills for employment.

“As a person who struggles with mental illness, I tend to feel useless and unproductive more often than not. Helping out with cleanup after the breakfast program has strengthened my (unfortunately low) sense of self-worth.” -Youth
