Through individualized assistance, this program helps youth build a sustainable support system that includes nutrition, medical care, life skills development, parenting education, and any other care that will ensure a healthy pregnancy and healthy children.
The goal of this program is to impact young children during the crucial, formative years of 0-3 in a proactive way that helps to prevent later social, emotional, behavioural and/or developmental difficulties. This program is an important component of the Rock’s continuum of support services to young families dealing with poverty.
The Wellness Works Support Worker takes part in the youth food bank and breakfast and evening programs and uses these programs to connect with and provide supports to young families.
Wellness Works was designed based on feedback and direct experience working with youth-at-risk. Youth often have a difficult time following through with appointments and goals and they struggle with being transferred to other support programs. Based on youth feedback, most of the program elements are provided in a drop-in manner. The Wellness Works Support Worker helps youth get to appointments, follow through with calls, book appointments, etc.
