Oasis Evening Program

Evening Program

"Oasis Coffee House:
Culture of Peace"

City of Hamilton :: CRIEDA :: Geraldo’s at LaSalle Park :: Hamilton Food Share :: Jamesville Community Centre :: Oakrun Bakeries :: United Way of Burlington & Hamilton :: YMCA

The Oasis Coffee House promotes a “Culture of Peace” to youth-at-risk by offering a safe place of refuge from the streets. Often times this program is the first contact the youth will have with the Living Rock. The evening program starts off with a hot dinner, and as the night progresses positive activities are offered. The activities encourage peace of mind to the youth as they have something healthy to do, a safe place to go, and an environment that promotes positive relationships and self-esteem; building a foundation for success in their lives.

The Evening Program Offers basic necessities such as: A free nutritious warm meal and basic supports,  access to washrooms, telephone, to the youth food bank and clothing exchange.  The Living Rock’s ‘Work-to-Earn Program’  for incentives is offered through this program.  Items such as bus tickets, hygiene products, and snacks which can be  accessed through this model.

The Evening Program allows the youth to connect with stable and caring relationships with staff, adults, volunteers and students from the community. Community and Cultural Integration is always a focus through many of the activities. Fun and engaging programs and entertainment are offered to enhance quality of life such as: guest speakers, drop-in Prenatal classes, Life skills training, Spa Night, CRIEDA Birthday Bashes, Movie Night and so much more!

Recreational Sports are often a draw to those that attend the Evening Program. Floor Hockey at the Jamesville Community Centre, YMCA- Swimming, Gym passes, other sports programs help to keep the youth active.

Cultural Theme Nights are used to educate and raise awareness, promoting anti-racism and to introduce new cultures to the youth.

Above all, the Evening program provides referrals to other community resources and on-site programs, along with needs assessments and goal setting.
