Living Rock Ministries has two Housing Support Workers that help youth obtain and maintain stable housing. The housing services at the Living Rock are linked to the Rock Resources Program which helps youth achieve weekly goals, household needs, and develop life skills.
The Housing Support Workers connect with street involved youth through the open access “It’s A New Day” Breakfast Program, TRI-Rock employment program, and Rock Resources, the work training program, as well as drop in appointments. The Housing Support Workers provide housing education groups each week, are available to view apartments with youth, act as an advocate for youth to landlords, case managers with Ontario Works, and serve as a resource of information related to housing. At the Living Rock there is access to phones, newspapers, a fax machine, and computers to aid youth in finding housing. The Housing Support Workers also provide referrals to trustees, drug counseling, shelters, and subsidized housing and legal aid clinics.
The role of the Housing Coach that complements many existing programs, including the Breakfast Program. The Housing Worker assists youth in establishing and maintaining adequate and stable housing, through connecting with youth. The Housing Coach not only connects with the youth that have stayed overnight (at the on-site Wesley Youth Shelter) but also to the many youth who access the Breakfast Program for basic needs.
Of those 128, 56% have secured new housing accommodations.
